Elder Abuse Fighter Ed Lum Passes Away

It is with deep regret that WEL has learned of the passing of Ed Lum on December 27, 2014 at the Hamilton General Hospital.

Ed was a retired Sergeant with the Hamilton Police Services for over 30 years and worked with Crimes Against Seniors Division and was most recently an Inspector with the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority. Ed also worked at Elder Abuse Ontario as the Central West Regional Consultant for two years. Ed was so passionate about his work and cared greatly about the well-being and safety of seniors.

Over the years, Ed contributed his knowledge and expertise to the field of elder abuse by expanding our understanding of policing, law and elder abuse. He partnered with many police services across Ontario as well as community organizations to provide training, presentations at elder abuse conferences and participated at community events and seminars for seniors.

Ed participated in many CLE/CPD programs by invitation and assisted in educating lawyers on elder and vulnerable person abuse.

Our sincere and heartfelt Condolences to Ed’s friends, colleagues and family.
