The candidate who receives the most votes will become a Canadian representative on the STEP Worldwide Council for a three-year term ending in December 2025. From my nomination application:

I am the founder of Whaley Estate Litigation Partners, a Canadian Boutique practicing dispute resolution in the areas of estates, trusts, powers of attorney, fiduciary accountings, guardianship, dependant support, elder law, capacity, and wealth succession. I joined STEP in 2002, becoming a TEP in 2007. I have been practicing law for more than 27 years and am qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales. I served on the Toronto Branch STEP Executive for approximately 8 years and was Chair from 2013-2015. I served on the National Conference Planning Committee from 2015 – 2017.  I have been a contributor to STEP Insider, journals/publications, including the Trusts & Estates Quarterly and STEP Connection Newsletter. I have presented at conferences locally, nationally, and internationally. In my tenure as Chair, our executive formed the STEP Connection Newsletter as a way of promoting connection with our membership.

In 2019, I was honoured to receive the STEP Toronto Volunteer of The Year Award and the Best Plenary Session Book Award for presenting on Medical & Legal Issues Affecting Capacity. I served as a Judge respecting the 2020-2021 Private Client Awards. I am a member of the newly constituted STEP Vulnerable Client Working Group. My firm is one of the finalists for the 2022 STEP Private Client Award in the Vulnerable Client Advisory category.

My years with STEP have facilitated opportunities to learn and work with and from other experts, to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge as well as to connect with like-minded professionals. I understand the international structure and strategy of STEP Worldwide and share in its objectives to grow a distinguished organization of the highest standard and look forward to the opportunity to work towards common goals in the future growth of STEP.

Thank you sincerely, Kim
